Bronx, N.Y. - (Dec. 9, 2011) - The Fordham track & field team was back in action at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse for their second home meet of the season on Friday, hosting the Christmas Classic. By the end of the night, Fordham found itself atop 12 events in the seven-team meet.
In the field events, the events wins started in the pole vault, where junior Keegan Talty won the event, clearing 13' 11 ¼".
Over in the jumping events, senior Elisabeth Warren won the long jump event with a mark of 17' 8", while freshman Hailey Cox took home the triple jump event with a distance of 32' 2 ¾".
Then in the high jump, Fordham had an event sweep, as junior Courtnay Newman won the women's event, clearing 5' 3", while sophomore David Fajoyomi was first in the men's event, clearing 6' 4".
The running events opened with a Fordham sweep in the hurdles events. The men's event saw junior Daniel Chediak take first in 8.6 seconds, while sophomore Averie Sheppard was the first collegian over the line in 9.4 seconds, just ahead of teammate Courtnay Newman.
Fordham also had an event sweep in the 500 meter dash, where sophomore Titi Fagade won the women's event in 1:18.0, with junior Sean Atkinson taking the men's event in 1:05.2.
The final event wins for the Rams came in the men's 1,000 meter run, the women's 3,000 meter run, and the men's 4x400 relay. Junior John Cosgrove won the 1,000 meter run in 2:31.4 with sophomore Anisa Arsenault taking the 3,000 meter run in 9:57.8.
Cosgrove then came back with Michel Rossi, Nick Delligatti, and Atkinson to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:24.1.
The Fordham track & field team is now off for exams and Christmas break and will next be in action on January 6th, when the Rams participate in the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
