Charlotte, N.C. - (Oct. 29, 2011) - While the northeast dealt with an early winter storm, the Fordham cross country teams traveled to the pleasant weather of Charlotte, N.C., for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday. The Rams had a solid performance as the men's team placed sixth out of 14 teams, while the women were 11th of 14 teams.
La Salle won the men's title, scoring 39 points, followed by Duquesne (72), Saint Joseph's (74), Dayton (119), Massachusetts (127), and Fordham (147). Richmond (176), Xavier (181), Charlotte (240), Temple (297), Saint Louis (324), Rhode Island (387), George Washington (407), and St. Bonaventure (434) rounded out the field of 14 teams.
Highlighting the day for Fordham was the performance of junior Julian Saad, who took fourth overall in the men's 8K race in 24:36.7 to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors.
Following Saad in for the Rams, Kevin Fitzgerald placed 22nd in 25:16.4, followed by Brian Riley in 35th (25:37.0), Michael Belgiovine in 45th (25:50.7), and Sam Stuart in 48th (25:52.1).
Other Fordham competitors were Brian Walter (53rd - 26:01.5), Ryan Polo (54th - 26:02.7), Nick Synan (55th - 26:05.4), Kevin Harvey (87th - 26:44.2) and Matt Collins (93rd - 27:09.6).
In the women's competition, La Salle won the title with a score of 69, followed by Dayton (84), Charlotte (92), Richmond (99), Saint Joseph's (132), Duquesne (144), Xavier (178), Saint Louis (188), Rhode Island (224), Massachusetts (231), Fordham (301), Temple (357), George Washington (413), and St. Bonaventure (443).
Leading the way for the Fordham women, sophomore Anisa Arsenault was the top finisher in 30th place of the 5K race in a time of 18:25.8, followed by Emily Osman in 68th place (19:08.9) and Sarah Glockenmeier in 70th place (19:10.8).
Other performers for the Rams were Mairin O'Connor (87th - 19:34.0), Nako Nakatsuka (93rd - 19:44.3), Ashley Davis (94th - 19:47.1), Christina Machado (99th - 19:55.7), Jillian Brooks (100th - 19:56.1), Danielle Drummond (104th - 20:02.8), and Mara Lieberman (127th - 21:57.4).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Saturday, November 5th, when the Rams compete at the Bad Boy Classic, hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
