Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 6, 2008) - Getting out before the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna hit the New York City area, the Fordham cross country teams hosted the Fordham Fiasco XC Meet at Van Cortlandt Park. Navy captured both the men's and women's titles, while host Fordham placed eighth in both races.
In the women's race, Navy won the meet with a score of 26 points, followed by Quinnipiac (79), Saint Joseph's (107), and Williams (107). Fordham finished with a score of 253.
Rutgers' Cheyenne Ogletree won individual honors over the 5K course, placing first in 18:39.78, followed by Navy's Amy Watson (18:45.12). Rounding out the top five were Quinnipiac's Chelsea Bollerman (18:52.90) and Navy's Katie Rentz (19:04.20) and Maureen Dooley (19:13.07).
Fordham was led by senior Brigid Moriarty, who placed 14th in 19:35.71, and sophomore Kerri Gallagher, who was 16th in 19:44.53. Senior Jacqueline Prevete placed 56th overall (20:45.19), followed by junior Bridget Carroll (102nd - 21:36.05), sophomore Catalina Hallock (133rd - 22:13.84), sophomore Susanne Hansen (134th - 22:14.36), freshman Mary LeSage (159th - 22:53.76), sophomore Kelsey Komich (160th - 22:54.52), freshman Fallon France (23:08.81), and sophomore Jana Trenk (182nd - 23:30.39).
In the men's race, Navy won the meet with a score of 29, followed by Quinnipiac (96, Williams (97), and DePaul (103). Fordham finished with a score of 235.
Williams' Edgar Kosgey won individual honors over the 8K course, placing first in 26:28.55, followed by DePaul's Matt Graham (26:43.34). Rounding out the top five were Navy's Will Prom (26:55.45), Andrew Hanko (26:55.74), and Matt De Villers (26:56.04).
Fordham was led by junior Paul Szczepaniak, who placed 32nd in 28:17.95, and junior Tim Hartnett, who was 42nd overall (28:31.95). Freshman Rich Grandelli was 54th in 28:52.80, followed by Patrick McDonough (60th - 28:59.05), senior Tom Papain (67th - 29:09.60), junior John Korevec (85th - 29:32.53), freshman Matt Collins (93rd - 29:53.19), sophomore Thomas Kelly (103rd - 30:13.48), sophomore Brendan Banks (106th - 30:19.12), and freshman Chris Cavanaugh (112th - 30:29.92).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Saturday, September 13th, when they compete at the Fairfield Invitational in Fairfield, Connecticut.
