Track & Field Finishes Third at Metropolitan Championship

Both Men & Women Take Third Place in First Championship Meet of 2026

Staten Island, N.Y. – (January 30, 2026) – The Fordham track & field team took part in its first championship meet of the semester on Friday at the 2026 Metropolitan Championship, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
 
The Fordham women placed third out of 14 teams with 91.5 points, behind only Monmouth (180.5) and St. John's (174), while the men's team also took third out of 14 teams with 99 points, trailing just Rowan (185) and Monmouth (177).
 
WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS
  • Fordham scored in 12 events on Friday, highlighted by the 4x800 relay team of Brenna Sears, Alondra Baez, Fabianna Szorenyi, and Lauren Raimy winning the event in 9:40.33.
  • Each member of the 4x800 relay scored individually, beginning with Szorenyi placing sixth in the mile run at 5:07.91, while Baez was fourth in the 500 meters at 1:17.75.  Raimy was seventh in the 800 meters at 2:23.88 with Sears taking third in the 1,000 meters at 2:56.18.
  • The 4x200 relay team comprised of Kylie Ritz, Nicole Lytle, Ileana Chlorou, and Alexandra Williams earned a second place finish in 1:42.13.
  • Individually, Williams added to the scoring total with a second place finish in the 500 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:16.19, while Ritz was fourth in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 7.82 seconds.Lytle scored in the 60-meter hurdles as well, scoring fifth at 9.02 seconds.
  • Kathleen Keefe was the third Ram to score in the 500 meters in sixth place at 1:18.91.
  • In the pole vault, Michael Gier was sixth overall, clearing 11' 4", while Tomara Seid tied for seventh at 10' 10". Seid also scored in the triple jump event, placing eighth with a season-best mark of 37' 1".
  • The 1,000 meter run had two other scorers besides Sears with Jodie Pierce taking second in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:54.11, while Sophia Oliva was sixth in 3:09.87.
  • Quincy Biddle (10:17.58) and Alexis Smith (10:31.77) then scored third and seventh, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.
  • The final scoring event for the Rams was the high jump, as Zoe Arakelian was second with an ECAC qualifying height of 5' 6", while Leia Ruvo tied for fourth at 5' 3".
 
MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Rams scored in 13 events in the Championship, highlighted by the men's distance medley relay team of John Corrigan, Trevor Rinn, Eric Schleif, and Sean Reidy winning the event in 10:22.28.
  • All four member of the distance medley relay also scored individually, starting with Schleif finishing third in the mile run at 4:21.36.
  • Reidy (1:54.06) and Corrigan (1:55.37) were second and fifth respectively in the 800-meter run, while Rinn was fifth in the 1,000 meters at 2:32.85.
  • In the 4x800 relay, Eben Tyre, Jake Frayler, Darren Croke, and Matthew Febles scored second with a time of 8:07.55.
  • Tyre, Croke, and Febles also scored in individual events with Tyre being fourth in the 500 meters at 1:06.41 with Croke (2:31.06) and Febles (2:34.32) being second and sixth respectively in the 1,000 meters.
  • The final scoring relay for the Rams was the 4x200 relay, as Sam Freeman, Liam Volz, Dakota Strain, and Michael Croke were third in 1:29.61.
  • Freeman added an eighth place finish in the 500 meters at 1:06.81 with Strain taking fifth in the 400 meters at 50.21 seconds.  Croke also scored in the pole vault, clearing a season-best 14' 7 ¼" for second place.
  • Other scoring runners for the Rams included Jack Boerger (4th – 15:05.85) and Bradford Duchesne (8th – 15:18.26) in the 5,000 meters, Menzel Thomas in the 60-meter hurdles (5th – 8.44), Nelson Lindsay in the 400 meters (8th – 50.55), and Daniel DiTunno (2nd – 8:55.95) and Matthew McCabe (8th – 9:12.80) in the 3,000 meters.
  • In the remaining field events, Noah Rubenstein scored sixth in the shot put with a season-best distance of 48' 8 ¼", while Luke Cramer was eighth in the triple jump at 43' 8".
 
WHAT'S NEXT
  • Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, February 1st at the 118th Millrose Games, hosted at The Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory.The Rams will participate in the college 4x400 relays, which are scheduled to occur just after 1:00 PM.
