Richmond, Va. – (March 21, 2025) – The Fordham track & field team began the outdoor portion of their schedule on Friday at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond in Virginia.
Fordham posted four event wins on Friday, all on the men's side of the ledger.
Tadael Mihret won the unseeded 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:18.64, while in the 1,500-meter run the Rams had a 1-2 finish.
Rodolfo Sanchez set a meet record in the event, taking it in a time of 3:46.73, while
Nathan Bezuneh was second in 3:47.27.
Njam Abdul-Latif then grabbed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.53 seconds with the final event win being in the 4x400 relay, as
Kevin Callaghan,
Nelson Lindsay,
Matthew Nurse, and
Sam Freeman took first in 3:17.77.
The Fordham men competed in seven other events on the day, beginning with the 4x100 relay team of
Liam Volz,
Dakota Strain,
Jonah Coleman, and Abdul-Latif placing fourth in 42.26 seconds.
DaRon Elam was the Rams' top performer in both the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump, finishing seventh in the hurdles at 16.10 seconds and tying for fourth in the high jump, clearing 6' 4 ¾".
The Rams had three runners place in the top ten in the 400-meter dash, led by Freeman in fourth place at 48.47 seconds, followed by Callaghan in seventh (49.07) and Lindsay in ninth (49.23). Then in the 800-meter run, Sanchez was fifth overall in 1:53.88 with Bezuneh in sixth in 1:54.77.
The final top performers for the men were
Bradford Duchesne in the seeded 5,000-meter run in 14
th place (15:13.24) and
James Alati in the javelin throw, finishing fourth with a mark of 164' 4".
On the women's side, the Rams' field performers had the best of the action.
Zoe Arakelian was second in the high jump, clearing 5' 3", with
Lexi Fujita in fifth at 5' 1".
Alexandra Manetovic grabbed third in the triple jump at 35' 10 ¾", while
Sarah Cooley had three top 11 finishes in the shot put (5
th – 38' 2 ¾"), discus throw (6
th – 111' 9"), and hammer throw (11
th – 121' 3").
Over in the track events, Fordham's 4x100 relay of
Caroline Fallona,
Riley Carroll,
Ileana Chlorou, and
Kylie Ritz registered a time of 49.87 seconds, good for third overall, while in the 4x400 relay,
Kathleen Keefe,
Lauren Raimy,
Cate Roche, and
Alexis Smith were 13
th in 4:12.77.
The Fordham women were in seven individual track events, beginning with
Ciara McGroary placing tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:07.45, followed by Ritz taking ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.41 seconds.
In the 100-meter dash, Fallona was 25
th overall in 12.85 seconds, while
Alexandra Williams was the top Ram in the 200 and 400 meters. She was sixth in the 400-meter dash at 57.65 seconds and 14
th in the 200 meters at 25.76 seconds.
Megan McCann had the top time in the women's 800 meters at 2:18.96, good for 19
th overall with
Meredith Gotzman taking 18
th in the 1,500 meters in 4:42.77.
The Rams are next in action on Saturday, March 29
th, at the Rider 5-Way Invitational in Lawrenceville, N.J., starting at about 12:00 PM.
