Virginia Beach, Va. – (February 28, 2025) – Competition at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship began on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Through five events, the Fordham men's team has 10 points for eighth place in the team standings.
All 10 points for the Rams came in the final event of the evening – the distance medley relay. Fordham's team of
Nathan Bezuneh,
Dakota Strain,
Sean Reidy, and
Rodolfo Sanchez took gold and First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in a season-best time of 9:52.44. It is the first time that the Rams have won the distance medley relay event, having previously taken silver in 2003 and 2015 and bronze in 2005. Fordham's time also ranks 46
th in Division I this season.
The Rams will have a number of opportunities to add to their point total on Saturday, as six Rams qualified for eight final slots.
Njam Abdul-Latif and
Sam Freeman each qualified for two Saturday final. Abdul-Latif qualified first for the 200-meter final in 21.37 seconds, while Freeman took the final spot in the 200-meter final at 21.78 seconds. Abdul-Latif also made the 60-meter dash final, qualifying second in a school record time of 6.82 seconds, breaking his own mark of 6.86 seconds from earlier in the year.
Freeman's second final will be the 500-meter run, as he qualified third in 1:04.52. He will be joined by
Kevin Callaghan in that final as he was sixth in the preliminaries at 1:05.12.
Fordham will also be represented in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, 800-meter run, and the 1,000-meter run.
DaRon Elam qualified eighth in the hurdles at 8.69 seconds with
Ben Borchers finishing fifth in the 800-meter preliminaries at 1:54.87.
John Corrigan was the last qualifier for Fordham in the 1,000 meters in fifth at 2:28.38.
The Rams may also find points in the heptathlon event, as
George Pomer and
Miguel Negrete are eighth and ninth respectively through the first four events. Pomer has 2,391 points with Negrete at 2,389 points.
Fordham also competed in four other events on Friday.
Nelson Lindsay was the top Ram in the 400-meter dash in 12
th place at 49.80 seconds, while
Bradford Duchesne posted a season-best time of 15:05.39 in the 5,000-meter run, good for 19
th overall. In the field events,
Constentino Proscia placed 14
th in the long jump event at 20' 10" with
Michael Croke in ninth place for the pole vault, clearing 14' 1 ¾".
Action on day two of the Championship starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
