Stony Brook, N.Y. – (August 31, 2024) – A new season for the Fordham cross country team began on Saturday morning at the Stony Brook Season Opener.
The Fordham women placed fourth out of five teams with a team score of 99 points, behind Quinnipiac (25), Stony Brook (42), and Sacred Heart (96), while finishing ahead of Wagner (131).
The Rams were led by newcomer
Katarina Birimac, who placed second overall over the 4K course in 14:02.10. Only Stony Brook's Grace Weigele finished ahead of Birimac at 13:55.40.
Kate Meeks was the next Ram across the line in 22
nd at 15:22.20, followed by
Brenna Sears (32
nd – 15:48.80),
Cate Roche (36
th – 16:02.40), and
Grace Kenny (37
th – 16:03.80).
Alexis Smith was 43
rd overall in 16:07.10 with
Megan McCann in 45
th (16:13.80).
On the men's side, Fordham placed third out of six teams with 66 points, behind only Stony Brook (19) and Wagner (63), while finishing ahead of LIU (113), Sacred Heart (116), and Quinnipiac (138).
Like the women's race, the Rams had the second place finisher in
Rodolfo Sanchez, as he clocked in with a person-best time of 19:15.80 over the 6K course. He ended up behind only Stony Brook's Collin Gilstrap's winning time of 19:08.40.
Fordham had another Ram in top ten in newcomer
Bradford Duchesne, who was eighth overall in 19:44.70.
John Corrigan was next across the line in 16
th place at 20:07.30, followed by
Sean Reidy in 23rd (20:20.60),
Darren Croke in 24
th (20:22.70), and
Aidan Hickey in 39
th (21:13.40).
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, September 7
th, for the Fordham Fiasco, held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
