Mahwah, N.J. – (March 30, 2024) – Saturday was a split day of competition for the Fordham track & field team, competing at the Ramapo Invitational in Mahwah, N.J. and the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University.
At Ramapo, the Fordham women placed sixth out of 16 teams with 54.5 points, highlighted by
Michaela Gier winning the pole vault event, as she cleared a school record height of 10' 10". She would also finish 11
th in the long jump (15' 8 ¾")
The Rams also posted event wins in the women's high jump and 1500-meter run. In the high jump,
Leia Ruvo took the top spot, clearing 5' 5", while
Zoe Arakelian took third (5' 1 ¾") and
Anya Alfonsetti-Terry tied for fourth (4'11 ¾"). Alfonsetti-Terry also scored in the long jump, placing fifth at 17' 1 ½".
The 1500-meter run saw
Clodagh McGroary get the event win in 4:55.39, followed by
Alexis Smith in fourth (5:02.81) and
Grace Kenny in sixth (5:04.04).
Maddy Kopec was 11
th in the event (5:12.94) with
Carolyn Cardell in 12
th (5:13.12).
Fordham also scored in the 800-meter run with
Quincy Biddle finishing seventh in 2:29.46.
The last event for the women was the 100-meter dash, where Ruvo was 12
th in 13.19 seconds with
Ashley Holbrook in 29
th (14.58).
For the men, the Rams only had two runners compete in the 1500-meter run, as
Tadael Mihret and
Jake Frayler scored seventh and eighth, respectively, in 4:15.25 and 4:17.59.
The Rams' next meet will be the Metropolitan Championship on April 6
th at Icahn Stadium.
