Hampton, Va. – (February 24, 2024) – It was a fantastic final day of competition at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship wrapped up at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia, and the Fordham women held on for third place out of 11 teams. Additionally, Fordham's
Ainhoa Martin was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the championship in a vote of the league coaches.
George Washington won its third straight women's championship with 890 points, followed by Richmond (470), Fordham (413.5), Duquesne (404), George Mason (306), Davidson (303.5), Massachusetts (296), St. Bonaventure (234), La Salle (165), Rhode Island (148) and Saint Louis (95).
The night of finals began with the 1650 freestyle event, which saw
Ellen Brooks score 12
th overall in a time of 17:18.88.
Next was the final of the 200 backstroke, where
Leire Martin took eighth overall in a time of 2:01.27, while in the final of the 100 freestyle,
Manon Compagner earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and a silver medal in a school record time of 49.36 seconds.
A historic moment then happened in the 200 breaststroke, as
Ainhoa Martin won her third individual event of the championship, winning the heat in an Atlantic 10 and school record time of 2:09.55. She is the first Ram to ever win three individual events in the same Atlantic 10 Championship, while her time could earn her a spot at the NCAA Championship. In addition to Martin, Emma Shaugnessy scored 11
th as a part of the "B" final in 2:17.90.
Jessica Zebrowski followed by tying for 11
th in the 200 butterfly event in a time of 2:02.18.
The last individual event for the Rams was the three-meter dive that saw three Rams in the finals.
Mya Bokerman and
Cai Flowers qualified for the championship final, while
Molly Farrell made the "B" final. Bokerman ended up fifth in the event at 271.20 with Flowers in eighth at 245.25. Farrell scored 16
th in the "B" final at 220.90.
The last event of the championship was the 400 freestyle relay, where Zebrowski, A. Martin,
Jane Brown, and Compagner placed fifth in a school record time of 3:20.86.
At the conclusion of the championship,
Ainhoa Martin became the 2
nd Fordham woman to be named the Most Outstanding Performer, joining Amelia Bullock in 2020.
