Junior Swimmer to Compete in Doha, Qatar Later This Week

Bronx, N.Y. – (February 12, 2024) – For the second consecutive year, Fordham swimmer Alexander Shah will represent his home country of Nepal at the World Aquatics Championships.  The 2024 Championships are being held in Doha, Qatar through February 18th, and will hand out titles in swimming, diving, high diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and water polo.

A 2022 Olympian for Nepal, Shah will compete in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle swimming events.  Heats for the 100-meter freestyle event are set for Wednesday, February 14th, while the 50-meter freestyle will occur on Friday, February 16th.

At the 2023 World Aquatics Championship in Fukuoka, Japan, Shah competed in the same two events, recording times of 23.89 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle and 52.94 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle.  Last year, he also took part in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

For Fordham this year, Shah has served as a team co-captain, leading the men's squad to an 8-1 dual meet record.  He has been a part of Fordham's top 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays with the 200 medley relay setting the school record at the Bucknell Invitational in December at 1:28.04.  Individually, he holds times of 20.49 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, which is seventh best in the Atlantic 10 this season, and 45.23 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, which is 12th in the conference.
