MacPhail, Vargas, & Hu Capture Honors at #A10SD Championship

David Vargas & Zhihua Hu Named Men’s Diving Most Outstanding Performer & Coach of the Year; Quinn MacPhail Takes Bronze in the 1650 Freestyle in School Record Time

Hampton, Virginia – (February 21, 2026) – The Fordham men's swimming & diving team finished seventh after the final day of the 2026 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship, which was held at the Hampton Aquaplex in Virginia.
 
FORDHAM – DAY 4 MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Six men's events were held on Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay.
  • The opening scoring final of the night was the 1650 freestyle, where Quinn MacPhail took home the bronze medal, scoring third in a school record time of 15:13.65.  He also set the 1000 freestyle record as a part of that race at 9:10.69.  Additionally, Aiden Dane scored 13th in 16:13.21, while John Koebel was 16th in 16:18.82.
  • In the 200 backstroke, Ben Ohrr just missed scoring, as he finished 17th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:50.55.
  • The same went for Daniel Ribeiro in the 100 freestyle, as he placed 18th in the preliminaries in 45.18 seconds.
  • The Rams' tough luck continued in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 butterfly events.  Radek Cohen was 19th in the 200 breaststroke at 2:05.44 as the top Ram, while Ohrr was 18th in the 200 butterfly at 1:52.93.
  • Fordham did find the scoring column in the final event of the championship, as Max Maycher, Ribeiro, Theo Vandenberg, and Misha Semenov scored sixth in the 400 freestyle relay at 2:59.79.
  • Following the conclusion of the championship, David Vargas was named the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Men's Diver, becoming the second Ram ever to earn that accolade (Paul Delo – 1997), while Fordham diving coach Zhihua Hu was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year for the first time in his 28 seasons at Fordham.
