New Haven, Conn. – (December 13-14, 2024) – The multi-event athletes of the Fordham track & field team took part in the Al Kadish Elm City Challenge this weekend in Connecticut.
On Friday, junior
Leia Ruvo won the women's pentathlon with a score of 3,343 points, competing against nine other individuals. She posted the top marks in the high jump, clearing 5' 4 ½", and the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:32.75. She was also second in the long jump (17' 7 ½"), third in the shot put (30' ¾"), and fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.14).
Then in the two-day heptathlon event, graduate transfer
Miguel Negrete placed third with a score of 4,310 points, while junior
George Pomer was fourth with a career-best score of 4,272 points. A total of 10 competitors finished the event.
For day one events, Negrete was fourth in the 55-meter dash (6.98), the long jump (20' 7"), and the shot put (37' 2 ¼"), while tying for ninth in the high jump (5' 5 ¼"). He then tied for first in the pole vault (13' 1 ½") and placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.56) and eighth in the 1,000-meter run (3:13.49).
Pomer won the 1,000-meter run at 2:51.37, while taking third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50) and fourth in the pole vault (11' 1 ¾") on day two. For day one, he was fourth in the high jump (6' ½"), fifth in the long jump (19' 7 ½"), seventh in the shot put (33' 6 ½"), and 11
th in the 55-meter dash (7.35).
