Newark, N.J. – (October 12, 2024) – The Fordham cross country teams were at Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey for the annual Metropolitan Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning.
The Rams finished seventh out of ten teams on the women's side, while the men were seventh out of eight teams.
The day began with the men's race as Manhattan captured its 27
th team championship at the METS with a score of 49 points, followed by Seton Hall (53), Marist (71), and Columbia (96). Fordham scored 158 for seventh.
Individually, Hofstra's Abraham Longosiwa was the individual champion over the five-mile course, pacing the field with a time of 23:29.99. He was the Pride's first ever Metropolitan individual champion.
Fordham's top runner was
Matthew Febles, who came across the finish line in 15
th place at 26:26.36, followed by
Anan Bauman in 30
th overall in 26:56.21.
Matthew McDevitt was 38
th in 27:15.66 with
Trevor Rinn in 53
rd (28:20.99) and
Jake Frayler in 59
th (29:34.21).
On the women's side, Seton Hall won its first-ever Metropolitan Championship with a score of 62 points, with Manhattan in second (83) and St. John's in third (94). Fordham was seventh with a score of 136.
St. John's Leyre Campo de Quevedo became the Red Storm's third individual champion, clocking in at 17:45.73 over the 5K course.
For Fordham,
Grace Kenny paced the Rams' contingent in 19
th place with a time of 19:01.40, with
Sophia Viscon in 21
st (19:07.88) and
Alexis Smith in 28
th (19:44.08).
Madison Collins was 31
st overall in 19:48.87, followed by
Marisa House (37
th – 20:07.12),
Ciara McGroary (44
th – 20:27.85),
Kathleen Keefe (55
th – 21:26.73), and
Jayde Lim (59
th – 22:00.47).
The Rams continue the championship portion of their schedule next week, as the team hosts the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, October 18
