Bronx, N.Y. – (March 14, 2023) – Despite some weather issues on Tuesday, the Fordham baseball team will certainly be busy in the coming days, playing five games in the next five days. The Rams head to Wagner (8-6) on Wednesday, while hosting Lafayette (3-12) in a re-scheduled game on Thursday and Fairfield (6-6) in a three-game series over the weekend.
Fordham (3-12) is coming off a 3-2 week, after winning two of three games against Quinnipiac over the weekend. The pitching staff was a major part of the Rams' success, holding opponents to a .206 batting average and posting a 3.13 team ERA.

SERIES HISTORY: The Fordham-Wagner series dates back to 1947 with the Rams holding a 51-20 record against the Seahawks. Wagner though has gotten the better of the Rams in recent years, winning three of the last four games since 2018. Last year, Wagner won the lone meeting by a 19-11 score at Houlihan Park. This will be Fordham's first trip to Staten Island since 2016.
On Thursday, Fordham matches up with Lafayette for the first time since 1995. The game renews one of the longer running series for the Rams, which began back in 1881. The two teams have met 93 times with Fordham holding a 51-41-1 record against the Leopards.
The weekend will see Fordham renew its series with Fairfield for a three-game set. The first meeting between the two Jesuit schools came in 1969 with each team winning 28 times each since then. Last year, the Stags grabbed a 6-5 win at Houlihan Park to even the series.
LAST TIME OUT: Quinnipiac's Mason Ulsh threw three innings of two-hit relief to secure a 3-2 victory over the Fordham Rams on Sunday afternoon at Houlihan Park.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Bobcats got on the scoreboard. John Heitzman led off with a single and then scored on a double by Sean Swenson to make it a 1-0 game. Quinnipiac made it 3-0 in the sixth, courtesy of an RBI-bunt single by Matt Tesoriero and a Heitzman RBI-double.
Fordham answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 3-2 game. With one out,
Peter DeMaria drew a walk and moved to second on a single by
Will Findlay. After a fly out,
Tommy McAndrews doubled to right center, scoring both DeMaria and Findlay.
The Rams attempted to put together a ninth inning rally, as McAndrews and pinch-hitter
Zach Selinger reached base on back-to-back singles with one out. However, Mason Ulsh was able to get
Sebastian Mexico and
Ryan Thiesse to pop out to end the game in favor of the Bobcats.
For Fordham,
Connor Haywood (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts over five innings of work. At the plate, McAndrews was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Findlay and
Cian Sahler also had two hits apiece.
GOIN' STREAKIN': While his eight-game hit streak was snapped on Sunday, freshman
Daniel Bucciero has been on fire all season, batting .404 with nine runs scored, six doubles, and nine RBI... Senior
Will Findlay had a successful last four games, recording a multi-hit game in each of those contests and batting .533 with three doubles and five RBI... Junior
Ryan Thiesse is hitting .350 in his last ten games (14-40) with nine runs scored and three stolen bases.
RAMS AT THE WBC: Fordham baseball is proud to have two of their former players taking part in this year's World Baseball Classic. Nick Martinez (Fordham – 2009-11) will be a part of Team USA, while Jake Rabinowitz (Fordham – 2006-09) will be pitching for the Czech Republic. Thus far, Rabinowitz has thrown one inning of scoreless relief for the Cech Republic, while Martinez took the loss in his start for Team USA, allowing three runs over 2.2 innings of work.
