Baseball’s Ninth Inning Rally Clinches Season Finale Win

Rams Score Five in the Ninth for 12-10 Victory

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – (May 16, 2026) – In a season littered with late inning rallies, the Fordham baseball team came up with one more in its season finale on Saturday, scoring five times in the ninth inning for a 12-10 win at Fred Handler Park.
 
THE GAME
  • Fordham opened with a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Joey Donnelly.
  • The Rams doubled the lead to 4-0 in the third inning, as Donnelly drove in another run on a ground ball, but the throw went awry allowing a second run to come in on the play.
  • St. Bonaventure scored three times in the third to pull with one at 4-3 before Tommy McAndrews cranked a two-run home to left center, his 15th of the season, to make it 6-3.
  • The Bonnies scored the next four runs to take a 7-6 lead after six innings of play.
  • Tim Ford knotted the score at seven with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
  • St. Bonaventure answered with a pair of RBI-doubles in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-7 lead.
  • Down to their final out with the bases loaded, the Rams scored five times in the ninth for a 12-9 edge, getting an RBI-single by Ernie Little and two-run singles by both Taylor Kirk and McAndrews.
  • The Bonnies did get a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as the Rams took the game by a 12-10 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • McAndrews finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, as he hit multiple milestones in the game.He reached the 50-RBI mark on the year, finishing with 53, which is tied for the fifth most at Fordham, while his home run was the 31st of his career, moving him into sole possession of second on the all-time home run list behind only Mike Marchiano (53 – 1994-97).
  • Donnelly was 1-for-5 with a double and three RBI, while Kirk was 3-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and a stolen base which gave him 30 on the season, becoming the first Ram with back-to-back 30 stolen bases seasons since Jake MacKenzie in 2018 and 2019.
  • Anthony Grabau, Mason Dean, and Ernie Little each had two hits and two runs scored in the game.
  • Aric Berg (2-1) earned the win in relief, pitching a scoreless eighth inning, while Will Vieira recorded his first collegiate save by getting the final three outs in the ninth with two strikeouts.
  • Robbie Stewart started the game, recording five strikeouts over 2.1 innings, while Andrew Kapica had four strikeouts over 2.2 innings of relief.
