No. 24 Men’s Soccer Heads to Rhode Island on Saturday

Rams will look for their third straight Atlantic 10 win

BRONX, N.Y.  – Fresh off a midweek Atlantic 10 win over Saint Joseph's, the 24th ranked Fordham men's soccer team will hit the road for a Saturday night matchup against the Rhode Island Rams in Kingston.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

Fordham (6-1-3, 3-1-0 A-10) enters the weekend having won two straight and four its last five. Prior to Wednesday's win over Saint Joe's, the Rams received their best national rankings of the season, moving up to no. 10 in the RPI and cracking the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 at no. 24.  It marked the first time since the fall of 2021 that Fordham has garnered a national ranking, as the Rams entered that season ranked 23rd in the nation after winning the Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament Championships in the spring of 2021.

The dynamic German scoring duo of Timo Hummrich and Florian Deletioglu scored the Rams' goals in the 2-1 victory over the Hawks.  After Fordham fell behind 1-0 in just the fourth minute, Hummrich equalized with a penalty kick in the 14th minute before Deletioglu scored the game-winner in the 68th.  It marked the sixth goal of the year for both players, tied for third in the Atlantic 10.  Four of Deletioglu's six goals have come during conference play, good enough for the lead league in that category.  The senior from Munich has recorded at least one point in all four of the Rams' conference matches so far.

Sigfus Arnason recorded his second assist of the season on Deletioglu's deciding tally against the Hawks.  The graduate transfer from Yale made a tremendous move to shake his defender before threading a pass through traffic to Deletioglu at the top of the box.

After Saint Joe's recorded the first two shots of the game, Fordham outshot the Hawks, 16-1, the rest of the way.  The Rams' also earned seven corner kicks to the Hawks' two.

Fordham enters the weekend tied for second in the Atlantic 10 standings with nine points, one point behind defending champion Saint Louis in first.

URI (2-5-3) welcomes Fordham with a conference mark of 0-3-1 after losing its second straight decision to George Mason, 4-2, on Wednesday night.  The Rams have been outscored 12-2 so far in league action.

Sophmore forward Mathias Taylor has been Rhode Island's leading scorer so far in 2023, finding the back of the net twice, including a goal on Wednesday against George Mason.  Five other Rams have scored once.

Junior goalkeeper Edu Rodriguez has started nine games between the pipes for URI, compiling a 2.13 goals against average and a .550 save percentage.

After its trip to Rhode Island, Fordham will return home to host No. 16 Hofstra on Tuesday night at Moglia Stadium.  Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
