Cross Country Places 11th at Atlantic 10 Championship

Rams Finish 11th in Both Men’s and Women’s Team Standings

Cedarville, Ohio. – (October 28, 2023) – The Fordham cross country team took part in the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday morning at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.  The Rams placed 11th of 15 teams in both the men's and women's championships.
 
The day opened with the men's championship which was delayed by 40 minutes due to a lightning delay.  Loyola Chicago repeated as a team champion with 26 points, followed by La Salle (59), Massachusetts (102), Saint Louis (162), and George Washington (181).  The remainder of the field consisted of George Mason (191), Rhode Island (210), Saint Joseph's (211), Dayton (219), Richmond (269), Fordham (280), VCU (313), Duquesne (328), St. Bonaventure (355), and Davidson (396).
 
Loyola Chicago's Chris Devaney was the men's individual champion, posting a winning time of 23:48.6 over the five-mile (8K) course.
 
Fordham was led by Steven Zucca, who just missed earning a spot on the All-Conference Team, placing 18th overall in a time of 24:39.4.  Colin Flood was the next Ram across the line in 39th at 24:58.4, followed by Sean Reidy (71st – 25:35.7), Jack Boerger (78th – 25:48.0), Nicolas Grabarz (105th – 26:18.6), Matthew McCabe (107th – 26:23.2), Darren Croke (108th – 26:28.8), John Corrigan (121st – 27:00.8), and Tadael Mihret (128th – 27:19.5).
 
In the women's championship, Loyola Chicago was once again the champion with a score of 65 points.  George Washington was second at 103 points with Richmond (122), Dayton (143), and Massachusetts (145) rounding out the top five.  The remainder of the field saw Duquesne (160), Saint Louis (162), Davidson (192), La Salle (213), George Mason (226), Fordham (308), Rhode Island (310), VCU (310), Saint Joseph's (311), and St. Bonaventure (423) finish from sixth place to 15th, respectively.
 
VCU's Lauren Tunnell claimed both top performer and top rookie honors by winning the 6K race in 20:50.6.
 
Fordham's top finisher was Meredith Gotzman in 36th place at 22:20.7 with Caitrina Barton in 46th at 22:36.3.  Marin Bogulski was the next Ram across the line in 73rd at 23:04.0, followed by Madeleine Ryan (79th – 23:13.3), Sarah Zahaykevich (87th – 23:21.2), Maddy Kopec (110th – 23:50.4), Clodagh McGroary (115th – 23:54.4), Quincy Biddle (127th – 24:24.9), and Alexis Smith (128th – 24:25.4).
 
The Rams will now prepare for the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday, November 10th, which will be held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
