New York, N.Y. – (January 20, 2023) – The Fordham track & field team took part in the Ramapo Season Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center on Friday, coming away with four event wins on the day.
All four event wins came in women's events, led by
Kyla Hill, who won the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 24.81 seconds, and later joined
Helen Connolly,
Mary Kathryn Underwood, and
Molly Mulvaney to take first in the 4x400 relay in a season-best time of 4:01.56.
Connolly, Underwood and Mulvaney had solid individual performances as well. Underwood grabbed second in the 800 meters in 2:16.91 with Mulvaney in seventh at 2:25.09. Connolly took fourth overall in the mile run in 5:17.19, finishing ahead of teammates
Marin Bogulski (5
th - 5:17.52) and
Jilli Jones (7
th – 5:29.09).
Ileana Chlorou and
Jana Rokitta also came away with event wins for Fordham. Chlorou won the unseeded version of the 60-meter dash in 8.40 seconds, while finishing seventh in the 200-meter dash in 26.97 seconds. Rokitta garnered the top spot in the high jump event, clearing a season-best height of 5' 8", placing ahead of teammates
Alexandra Manetovic (4
th – 5' 3") and
Allison Burton (8
th – 5' 1").
In addition to these performances,
Tiffany Hanna had a strong day in the throwing event, placing third in the shot put at 38' 5" and fourth in the weight throw in 55' 4 ¾", while
Casey Metzler was sixth in the weight throw (45' 4 ½") and
Amanda Gurth took eighth in the shot put (35' 6 ¾").

Other top performers on Friday were
Leia Ruvo in the triple jump (4
th - 36' 1 ½"),
Madeleine Ryan in the 3,000 meters (8
th – 11:01.28),
Michele Daye in the 400 meters (6
th – 1:02.09), and
Carolyn Cardell in the 600 meters (8
th – 1:48.30).
On the men's side, the Rams had three top five finishes, led by the 4x400 relay team of
Kevin Callaghan,
Erik Brown, Matthew Nurse, and
Isaiah James, which finished fourth in 3:24.19. Each of these runners also had a strong showing individual, as Callaghan was eighth in the 600-meter run (1:25.21), Brown was tenth in the 800-meter run (1:59.57), Nurse was sixth in the 400-meter dash (51.02), and James was ninth in the 600 meters (1:26.39).
Besides the relay,
Ben Borchers and
Michael Croke also had a top five finish. Borchers was fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:55.61 with Croke clearing 13' 5 ¼" in the pole vault for fourth place.
Other top performers for the men including
Nicolas Grabarz in the 5,000 meters (8
th – 15:48.43),
Patrick Tuohy and
Nolan Chiles in the mile run (9
th – 4:27.69 & 10
th – 4:27.85), and
Christopher Martinez in the 400 meters (10
th – 51.76).
The Rams now get ready for a busy weekend of action on January 27-28, as the team will be split up between the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, and the River Hawk Invitational, hosted at the TRACK at new balance in Brighton, Massachusetts.
