Randall's Island, N.Y. – (April 9, 2022) – The Fordham men's track & field team completed their run at the 2022 Metropolitan Championship, held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island on Saturday afternoon, finishing in a tie for sixth place out of 15 teams.
Manhattan won the team championship with 118 points, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson (97.5), Wagner (72), St. Francis Brooklyn (65), Columbia (64.5), Fordham (54), Saint Peter's (54), NJIT (45), Marist (35), NYU (34), Iona (34), Ramapo (33), Rutgers (10), Hofstra (9), LIU (4).
The day began with the 4x100 relay, as
Justin Rhee,
Eric Galante, Manuel Guzman, and
Robert LeFevre scored fifth for the Rams in 44.20 seconds.
Colin Flood
Next was the 1,500-meter run, where
Colin Flood earned a bronze medal finish, taking third in a season-best time of 3:58.62, while
Zalen Nelson scored sixth overall in 4:00.82.
Brandon Hall and
Steven Zucca just missed scoring in ninth (4:02.10) and tenth (4:03.12) place, respectively.
The Rams did not score in the next two events, the 100- and 400- meter dashes, but came close with LeFevre placing tenth in the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 11.13 seconds, while
Antony Misko took ninth in the 400 meters at 50.06 seconds.
Fordham returned to the scoring column in the 800-meter run, as three Rams placed in the top eight.
Christopher Strzelinski grabbed a silver medal finish, taking second in 1:55.75 with
Erik Brown in sixth (1:57.47) and
Samuel Wilcox in eighth (1:57.97).
The Rams also scored in the long jump event, where Rhee registered a seventh-place finish at 21' 1 ¼". He would also finish 11
th in the triple jump at 41' 6".
In the remaining individual events, Fordham's top performers were
Alec Wargo in the discus throw (14
th - 114' 4"),
Chase Krug in the 400-meter hurdles (10
th – 1:00.52 – season-best), and LeFevre in the 200-meter dash (13
th – 22.31 – season-best).
The day ended with the 4x800 and 4x400 relay events. Fordham won the 4x800 relay with
Daniel Asher, Brown,
Eric Jacobson, and Strzelinski posting a top time of 7:50.52, while the group of
Jeremiah LaDuca, Nelson,
Isaiah James, and Misko took bronze with a third-place time of 3:20.11.
The Rams will next be in action at the Larry Ellis Invitational, April 15-16, hosted by Princeton University.
