Newport News, Va. – (April 7, 2022) – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2022 Swimming & Diving Academic All-Conference team on Thursday with Fordham's
Clare Culver (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) and
Alex Wilhelm (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) being named to the women's and men's squads, respectively. This is first time that either was named Academic All-Conference in their careers.
A Psychology major with a 3.95 GPA, Culver was Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in the 1650 freestyle at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship, setting school record in 16:39.94, while also setting the 1000 freestyle school record in that race as well (10:06.07). Additionally, she scored fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:53.34), 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:50.00), sixth in the 800 freestyle relay (7:24.93), and seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.42). A two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Culver has been named to the Dean's List and is a member of Fordham SAAC.
Wilhelm, a Political Science major with a 3.71 GPA, was a two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week during the regular season and Fordham's top performer at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship. Individually, he scored fourth in the 200 individual medley in a school record time of 1:47.21, while being seventh in the 100 backstroke (49.04) and 13th in the 200 backstroke (1:50.38). He then earned bronze medals with the 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams, while the 400 medley relay grabbed sixth at the Championship. The 800 freestyle relay would set a new school record of 6:38.70 in the event.
Wilhelm has also been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
