Zalen Nelson tested his speed against some of the country's best at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
Nelson ran in the college division of the 800-meter run, competing against runners from UCLA, Penn State, Columbia, Virginia, Cornell, La Salle, Hampton, Connecticut, South Carolina, Maryland, Penn, Albany, Syracuse, Lehigh, and Binghamton.
He would finish ninth in a 42-runner field with a time of 1:53.09. His time was fifth in his nine-person heat, which was won by the event winner, Daniel Nixon in a time of 1:51.52.
Nelson will next be in action on February 11
th as he and the rest of the Rams will split up to compete at the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston and the Rutgers Indoor Invitational in New York.
