Lewisburg, Pa. – (November 19, 2022) - The Fordham swimming & diving team continued their run at the Bucknell Invitational with a fantastic Saturday, which saw four event wins and one school record broken.
The team standings saw Fordham stay pat, as the women are second of eight teams with 726.5 points, trailing only host Bucknell (896), while the men are fourth of eight squads with 523 points.
Highlighting the day was
Paris Raptis, who won the 100 butterfly event with a school record time of 47.87 seconds, breaking Joe Mercurio's 2018 record of 47.98 seconds. Additionally in that event,
Taras Zherebetskyy scored fourth (48.94) with
Vitalis Onu in 10
th (49.82) and
Len Ray in 15
th (50.26). On the women's side,
Jessica Zebrowski finished second in 54.20 seconds with
Madeline Wambach taking 18
th (57.76) and
Miranda Bonitatebus in 20
th (57.93).
The women's highlights started with the opening final on Saturday, as
Leire Martin,
Emma Shaughnessy, Zebrowski, and
Zoei Howard won the 200 medley relay in 1:42.34, while on the men's side,
Christian Taylor, Raptis, Onu, and Zherebetskyy grabbed third in 1:29.73.
The event wins continued in the 400 individual medley, when
Leire Martin placed first in a time of 4:16.17, one of five Rams to score in the women's event.
Ainhoa Martin was third in 4:24.77, followed by
Emilie Krog in seventh (4:28.31),
Alison Lin in tenth (4:26.78), and Bonitatebus in 17
th (4:32.06). In the men's event,
Daniel Langlois scored 12
th in 4:07.03.
Fordham's final event win on Saturday came from
Ainhoa Martin, who finished first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.61. Shaughnessy was third in the event at 1:02.89 with
Eva Kaplan scoring 21
st (1:06.85). A trio of men's swimmers also scored in the 100 breaststroke led by Raptis in sixth place at 56.39 seconds with
Noah Althoff in 13
th (56.90) and
Kevin Zahariev in 20
th (57.20).
The Rams also three swimmers on both sides of the 200 freestyle events.
Clare Culver was the top female performer in fifth at 1:51.52, followed by Howard in eighth (1:53.82) and
Audrey Tirrell tying for 11
th (1:53.04). For the men,
Taz Kanjanakaset won the "B" final for ninth overall in 1:40.88, followed by
Alex Wilhelm in 12
th (1:42.31) and
Ethan Newberry in 21
st (1:44.40).
The final individual swimming event was the 100 backstroke, which saw L. Martin (55.76) and Taylor (49.91) taking third in women and men's event.
Megan Morris also scored for the women in 11
th (56.45) with
Michael Biryukov in 19
th (51.73) and
Brian Desmond in 22
nd (52.48) for the men.
In diving,
Marco Petit scored 14
th overall in the one-meter diving event with a score of 167.15.
The last event of day two of the Bucknell Invitational was the 800 freestyle relay. The Fordham women's relay of Krog, Culver, Lin, and A. Martin placed fourth in 7:32.34, while the men's relay of Althoff, Wilhelm, Kanjanakaset, and Onu took seventh in 6:50.75.
The Bucknell Invitational concludes on Sunday with preliminaries starting at 10:00 AM and the finals at 6:00 PM.
