Friday Finals
Lewisburg, Pa. – (November 18, 2022) – The Fordham swimming & diving team opened competition at the three-day Bucknell Invitational on Friday with an outstanding first day.
Through day one scoring, the Fordham women are second out of eight teams with 316 points, behind only host Bucknell (400), while the Fordham men are fourth out of eight teams with 216 points.
The Fordham men set the tone early in the first event of Friday finals, setting a new school record in the 200 freestyle relay. The Rams' group of
Christian Taylor,
Taras Zherebetskyy,
Nicholas Chao, and
Noah Althoff posted a new record time of 1:20.87, besting the 2018 record of 1:21.10.
On the women's side, Fordham took sixth in the 200 freestyle, as
Zoei Howard,
Jessica Zebrowski,
Alison Lin, and
Megan Morris record a time of 1:34.94.
In the women's 500 freestyle event, three Rams made the finals, led by
Emilie Krog, who placed third in 4:55.80, while
Clare Culver was sixth overall in 4:57.67.
Luisa Rosa scored 13
th in 5:03.66. The men's 500 freestyle saw
Ethan Newberry win the "C" final for 17
th overall in 4:37.76.
Next was the 200 individual medley, where another trio of Fordham women scored for the Rams.
Leire Martin (2:01.36) and
Ainhoa Martin (2:02.14) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Lin was 13
th overall in 2:05.84. On the men's side,
Alex Wilhelm won the "B" final for ninth overall in 1:50.96, while Althoff took the "C" final for 17
th overall in 1:53.14.
The 50 freestyle event had a pair of Fordham women and six men find the scoring column. Howard grabbed eighth in the women's event in 24.10 seconds with Morris in 16
th at 24.13. Taylor had the top finish for the men in fifth place at 20.47 seconds with Zherebetskyy taking eighth in 21.01 seconds. Chao then took 13
th (21.00) with
Taz Kanjanakaset winning the "C" final for 17
th overall in 20.95 seconds.
Alexander Shah (18
th – 20.99) and
Vitalis Onu (23
rd – 21.18) rounded out the scoring for the Rams.
In diving, it was the women's one-meter dive and men's three-meter dive that took center stage on Friday. Six women found the scoring column on the one-meter board, led by
Millie Haffety, who grabbed second in 271.55 points, while
Lilia de Oliveira Pelaez took fifth with a score of 239.60 points.
Mya Bokerman (11
th – 215.35),
Cai Flowers (22
nd – 192.15),
Maia Cacchione (23
rd – 189.30), and
Molly Farrell (24
th – 187.85) also scored for the Rams. On the men's side,
Marco Petit scored 14
th in the three-meter dive with a score of 178.25.
The final event of day one was the 400 medley relay. The Fordham women placed second, as L. Martin,
Emma Shaughnessy, Zebrowski, and Howard, clocked in at 3:41.88, while the men were third, as Taylor,
Paris Raptis, Onu, and Zherebetskyy posted a time of 3:17.13.
Day two of the Bucknell Invitational starts at 10:00 AM on Saturday with preliminary action with the finals starting at 6:00 PM.
