New York, N.Y. – (January 28, 2022) – As the women were in Boston, the men of the Fordham track & field team were at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island for the Great Dane Invitational, hosted by the University at Albany.
The Rams had a very successful day, led by
Zalen Nelson, who won the 800-meter run event in a career-best time of 1:50.99.
Jeremiah LaDuca and
Erik Brown joined Nelson in the 800 meters, placing fifth (1:54.64) and 28
th (1:58.49) overall, respectively.
That trio then joined
Samuel Wilcox for the 4x400 relay which finished eighth overall in a time of 3:24.31. Wilcox also had a strong showing individually, as he registered a fifth-place finish in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:31.99.
Alec Wargo
Steve Zucca and
Brandon Hall also had fifth-place finishes on day with season-best performances in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000 meters. Zucca ran a time of 15:05.46 in the 5,000 meters, while Hall posted a mark of 8:24.10 in the 3,000 meters.
The final runners of the day were in the mile run.
Rodolfo Sanchez was the top Ram, as he took eighth in a season-best time of 4:14.67, while
Nathan Bezuneh was 16
th in 4:20.35.
Fordham also had three competitors in the field events at the Great Dane Invitational.
Alec Wargo had a season-best performance in the weight throw with a distance of 47' 9 ¾", while
Andrew Ramsammy tied a season-best height at 6' 2 ¾" in the high jump, which was tied for 12
th overall.
Justin Rhee then took 15
th in the triple jump event with a mark of 42' 1 ½".
The Rams will now look forward to the Metropolitan Championship on February 3-4.
