Louisville, Ky. – Four Fordham softball student-athletes garnered NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team accolades, it was announced on Thursday afternoon, the 11
th consecutive year that the program has had at least two players earn All-Region honors. This year it was
Madie Aughinbaugh,
Rachel Hubertus,
Devon Miller, and
Brianna Pinto. For the latter trio, this is their first career All-Region award.
"I'm excited and proud of Augie, Rachel, Devon, and Bebe for being recognized by the NFCA for their success this season." Head coach
Melissa Inouye said, "They all played important roles and contributed a lot to our team success. It's nice to see their hard work and their trust in the process be rewarded."
For Aughinbaugh, this is her fourth consecutive NFCA Third Team All-Region honor, all in the pitcher/utility slot reserved for two-way performances. The graduate student made 18 appearances in the circle, all starts, with a 14-3 record and a 2.49 ERA, striking out exactly 104 over 104.0 frames with eight complete games and two shutouts. At the plate, the Port Tobacco, Md. native slashed .313/.400/.492 over 40 starts in the field total with 13 extra-base hits, including four home runs, more walks (18) than strikeouts (10) and was a perfect 14-for-14 on the basepaths, as well. She graduates in third place in nearly every single pitching category in the program record books and is also fifth in career saves (5) and eighth in career ERA (2.59). Aughinbaugh earned her first career All-Academic award this year and was Fordham's lone representative on the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team two weeks ago.
Hubertus returned from a long injury layoff, nearly two full years between games, to slash .338/.368/.662 with a team-high 13 home runs, 54 RBIs, 51 hits, and 10 doubles while starting all 47 contests this Spring, the lone Ram to do so. The home run total and slugging percentage were both tied for 10
th-most in a single season, while her RBI tally finished in a share of fifth in a single year alongside Elise Fortier (2013).
Miller was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, in addition to First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie, and was named a NFCA/Schutt Sports Top-15 Freshman of the Year finalist after a tremendous season in the circle for the Rams. The Chadds Ford, Pa. native made a team-high 22 appearances, 16 starts, and worked to a 13-4 record with a 1.61 ERA over 95.2 innings while striking out a whopping 155 hitters, who batted just .140 against her. Miller made 16 starts and went the distance 11 times, including two perfect games and an additional no-hitter, joining former All-American and Fordham Hall of Famer Jen Mineau ('12) in hurling multiple in a single campaign. She also collected two saves.
Pinto set a new program single-season record with her .431 batting average over 46 starts and 123 at-bats, also going an incredible 28-for-28 in stolen base attempts, third-most in a single season. The thefts pushed the senior outfielder up to fourth all-time at Fordham with 60 stolen bases. Pinto slashed .431/.462/.553 with nine extra-base hits, including her first two career home runs – one a walk-off grand slam and the other an inside-the-park home run – with a team-high 53 hits and the second-most runs on the team, 33. Her on-base percentage this season was also 10
th-highest all-time. As a result of her season she was named Second Team All-Conference.
