With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years
Â
April 8, 2011 – Fordham softball pitcher Jen Mineau recorded her sixth career no-hitter, while Jocelyn Dearborn and
Gabby Luety both hit solo home runs, as the Rams posted a 3-0 win over the George Washington Colonials at Bahoshy Field.
Â
The win improved Fordham to 23-16 on the year and started a nine-game win streak for the Rams, and the team went on to win their first Atlantic 10 Championship at the end of the 2011 season.
Jen Mineau
Â
"I was blessed to be part of the very first Fordham softball team to bring home the Atlantic 10 championship. Many Fordham teams before us had fought hard to make the team better and give us the opportunity to be the first. I had amazing teammates and leaders that showed me how to help continue the Fordham softball legacy," said Luety.
Â
Mineau walked one batter and struck out 12 in the game for the no-no.
Â
"High caliber pitchers are hard to come by. It's even more rare that you may get to catch for one," said Luety. Â "Jen was one of those rare pitchers and I was lucky enough to catch for her for two years. When a pitcher throws a no hitter or a perfect game it's something really special, you never really forget it especially when you are part of the battery. Jen always had excellent stuff, but that day it was surreal and they couldn't touch it. Most people are lucky to be part of one, but I was blessed to have caught three of Jen's no hitters and two perfect games!"
Â
Fordham scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings for the team's three runs. First, it was a solo home run by Jocelyn Dearborn in the bottom of the third, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Lindsay Kay Bright reached on an infield single, stole second, and scored on an error for a 2-0 lead. The final run in the sixth was a leadoff home run by
Gabby Luety.
Â
By season's end, Mineau would be named an All-American for the second time and was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship. She finished the year, 24-9 with a 1.24 ERA, 15 shutouts, and 300 strikeouts.
Â

April 8, 1909 – In what became a trend during the 1909 season, the Fordham baseball team registered its third no-hitter of the year in a 5-0 win against Rock Hill College in Maryland.
Â
Vic Shankey was the third different Fordham pitcher to be a part of a no-hitter on the year, joining teammates Chris Mahoney and Dick Egan. Shankey went all nine innings for the complete game no-hitter, walking three, while striking out 11 batters.
Â
This was also the third shutout of the 1909 season, which ended with a school record eight shutouts. The single season shutout record was matched by the 1991 Rams.
