John McGurk Connects for Fifth-Ever Six-Hit Game

With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years

April 15, 1941 – John McGurk joined some rarified company for Fordham baseball, as he recorded six hits in a 25-2 win over LIU.

The senior, who also was the Student Council President for 1941, became just the fifth Ram to collect six hits in the same game.  He joined James Conway (1914), Frankie Frisch (1919), Jack Fisher (1932), and John Metoski (1937) as the only Fordham players to have a six-hit game.

The most recent player to have a chance at a six-hit game came in 2019, when Matt Tarabek had five hits in his first six at bats at Fairleigh Dickinson, but struck out in his attempt for a sixth hit.

McGurk went on to hit .292 for the 1941 season, scoring 12 runs with 10 RBI.
