Bronx, N.Y. – (April 10, 2026) – VCU's Jacob Lee hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie, as VCU took a 5-3 decision from the Fordham Rams at Houlihan Park on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, Fordham is now 14-19 overall, 6-7 in the Atlantic 10, while VCU moved to 19-14 on the year, 9-4 in the league.
THE GAME
- VCU scored on the first pitch of the game, as Dante DeFranco hit a leadoff home run to left, his fourth of the season for a 1-0 lead.
- Fordham quickly tied the game at one in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Joey Donnelly, plating Taylor Kirk from third.
- VCU regained the lead in the third inning on a two-run home run by Michael Petite, his ninth of the year.
- Fordham then scratched single runs across the plate in the third and fourth innings to knot the game at three, scoring on another sacrifice fly by Donnelly and on a VCU balk.
- VCU went back ahead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Jacob Lee, his seventh of the season.
- Fordham was able to get runners on base over the final five innings but were unable to solve the relief pitching of VCU's Dawson Newman and Zach Peters, as they combined for nine strikeouts, while allowing three hits.
GAME NOTES
- Beau Elson (3-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits over six innings.
- Mason Dean and Anthony Grabau each had two hits for Fordham.
- Kirk finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Donnelly had a pair of RBI on two sacrifice flies.
