Bronx, N.Y. – (April 11, 2026) – VCU's Patrick Steitz threw eight shutout innings, while the Black and Gold offense hit three home runs, as VCU topped Fordham, 13-1, at Houlihan Park on Saturday afternoon.
THE GAME
- The game was scoreless through four innings before VCU's Quinn Maher hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.
- VCU then got back-to-back home runs from Michael Petite and Nate Kirkpatrick in the sixth inning to double the lead to 4-0.
- The lead expanded to 13-0 with two runs in the seventh and seven in the ninth before Fordham broke up the shutout in the bottom of the ninth when Tommy McAndrews scored on a wild pitch.
GAME NOTES
- VCU's Patrick Steitz improved to 5-1 on the season, throwing eight shutout innings, allowing six hits with eight strikeouts.
- Aidan Dowd (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over a season-high six innings with five strikeouts.
- McAndrews finished the day 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
- Tommy Markey was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while Mason Dean had the only other hit for Fordham.
