Box Score Dayton, Ohio – The Fordham men's tennis team closed out its stay in Ohio with a 4-3 upset win over the University of Dayton at the South Regency Tennis Center on Sunday.
The match came down to the first singles as
Fabian Mauritzson saved match point at 5-6 in the third set to clinch deciding match in tiebreak over Connor Bruce. Mauritzson took the first set, 6-2, from Bruce but dropped the second, 6-1. He then fell behind Bruce and was facing match point when he battled back to send the match to a tiebreaker which he won, 10-5.
The Rams opened play by taking the doubles point, winning two doubles matches in tiebreakers over a team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals last spring before falling to eventual champions VCU.
"Doubles was crucial for us today," said head coach Michael Sowter. "All the guys played really tough and stuck to the game plan. Great team effort!"
