Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis team got back on track on Friday, defeating Rider University, 4-3, at the Cary Leeds Center.
 
"Overall, a great team effort and some good individual wins," said head coach David Slater. "The doubles point once again turned out to be crucial. Energy and effort on all courts was excellent. Great win for the team."
 
The match opened with the Rams taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. After Fordham lost at first doubles, Dhananjay Athreya and Filip Horak took second doubles from Rider's Axel Engstrom/Ibragim Turgambekov, 7-5. The point then came down to third doubles where Will Lokier and Nicolas Garnier had to go to a tiebreaker before defeating Roger Martinez and Heath Paul Waters, 7-6(3).
 
Fordham then won the match by taking three of the six singles matches. Dhillon Virdee-Oakley took third singles from Heath Paul Waters, 7-6(3), 7-5, and Lokier won at fourth singles over Engstrom, 6-2, 6-1. Athreya then clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-2, 7-5(3) win over Nathan Slattery at fifth singles.
