Former student-athlete named Academic All-American® in two sports

With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years

Bronx, N.Y. – One of the most academically decorated student-athletes in Fordham history, Cindy Vojtech, a 2000 graduate of the Gabelli School of Business was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American®, earning the honor in two different sports. She is the only Fordham student-athlete to earn three straight Academic All-America® honors.

Vojtech, who was also named the 1999 Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year for volleyball, was Fordham's first ever three-time recipient of the Claire G. Hobbs Award, presented to the Rams' outstanding female student-athlete of the year. She graduated as the school's only 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig performer for volleyball and was the first Ram to record multiple triple-doubles in her career.

Vojtech graduated as Fordham's all-time leader in games played (444), matches played (124), and digs (1,016), and was also tied for first on Fordham's all-time block assist list (215).

Following her senior volleyball season, Vojtech joined the women's crew, breaking the Fordham erg score twice shortly after joining the squad in the winter. That spring she was a member of Fordham's premier boat, the varsity eight, a boat that quickly became one of the best ever varsity eight shells at Fordham. The 2000 Fordham varsity eight finished second at the Dad Vail, missing the gold medal in a photo finish (this was Fordham's best finish in the varsity eight event at the Dad Vail).

Following the rowing season, Vojtech received Academic All-American® honors and she received the Benedict Harter Award at the 2000 Block F Dinner, presented to the Gabelli Business School senior student-athlete who had made significant academic and athletic contributions during the current school year. She also was the 2000 Gabelli valedictorian and was inducted into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.

Vojtech was the first recipient of a scholarship fund created by John Toffolon, a former Wall Street executive, and his wife, Joan, to support women studying at the Gabelli School, where Toffolon earned both a bachelor's degree and an M.B.A.

Following her Fordham career, Vojtech earned an M.A., in Economics at the University of California - San Diego, in 2008, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the same school in 2011. She currently serves as a principal economist with the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. and is a member of the Fordham President's Council.
