With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years
March 24, 1996 – After winning game one of a doubleheader against Manhattan, Fordham hurler Chris Moran added to the Jaspers' troubles in game two by tossing a no-hitter, the Rams' first since 1990, when Miguel Jimenez also stymied Manhattan. It is the last no-hitter thrown by a baseball Ram.
Moran struck out six and walked only two over the seven-inning affair to record his first win of the season. He earned Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honor, following that performance.
"Going into the game, I wasn't pitching like I wanted to," said Moran after the game to
The Ram. "My goal was to just throw strikes and get the confidence level up."
Moran finished the 1996 season with eight appearances on the mound, throwing 27.1 innings with 18 strikeouts.
March 24, 2010 – On her way to being named A-10 Co-Player of the Year,
Beckah Wiggins had a career day against Saint Peter's in game one of a doubleheader in 2010, setting or tying four school records.
Beckah Wiggins
Wiggins was 5-for-5, tallying nine RBI with two home runs, including a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to break the school's single game RBI record.
Allison Twarowski and
Melissa Andrews previously held the record with seven RBI in 2006 and 2007, respectively. She also tied the then-records for hits and home runs in a game with five and two, respectively, as well as total bases with 11.
In game two against Saint Peter's, Wiggins went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI in a 12-1 win.
It was the first of many 2010 highlights for Wiggins, as she became the second Ram to earn Player of the Year honors as well as First Team All-Atlantic 10, helping Fordham to its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance. She ended the year with a then-school record 60 RBI, while hitting .328, with 32 runs, nine doubles, and 12 home runs.
