Newport News, Va. – (March 19, 2020) – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its Academic All-Conference teams for swimming & diving on Thursday. Among those honored included Fordham senior
Christopher Sleutjes (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame) and junior
Hannah McGee (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh). This is the second time that Sleutjes has been named to the Academic All-Conference team, while being the first for McGee.
The Academic All-Conference teams are comprised of student-athletes who were selected based on their athletic and academic performance. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.
Sleutjes, who holds a 4.00 GPA and is majoring in Finance, is a three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and had another solid season for the Rams as Fordham's top distance swimmer. He scored eighth at the A-10 Championship as a part of the 800 freestyle relay, while placing 21
st in the 1650 freestyle, 30
th in the 500 freestyle, and 32
nd in the 200 freestyle. He posted Fordham's top times in all three distance freestyle events at 16:00.10 (1650 free), 9:49.96 (1000 free), and 4:33.48 (500 free), while setting a new personal-best in the 200 freestyle at the Bucknell Invitational at 1:42.08.
McGee is majoring in Psychology with a 3.72 GPA and is a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. She had a breakout year for the Rams, medaling three times at the A-10 Championship, while being a part of two conference and school relay records. She was a part of the A-10 champion 200 freestyle relay (1:30.84) and the 400 medley relay (3:40.20) teams for Fordham, while earning a bronze medal in the 100 butterfly in 54.50 seconds, as the Rams swept all three medals in that event. She also scored fourth at the A-10 Championship in the 200 medley relay (1:41.02) and the 200 butterfly (2:01.53) and grabbed fifth in the 50 freestyle (23.44). Overall on the year, McGee set personal-best times in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle (54.32), 100 butterfly, and 200 butterfly events.
