Boston, Mass. – (February 28, 2020) – The Fordham squash team opened defense of their Chaffee Cup title at CSA Team Championship on Friday with a 9-0 win over Washington University in St. Louis.
The Rams (19-9) opened the match with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a defaulted ninth slot match as Washington U. had only eight competitors.
William Douglass kicked off action with a win over Russell Scharf at the top spot in four games, 11-4, 11-3, 4-11, and 11-6, followed by a fourth slot win by
Griffin Fitzgerald over Connor Browder in three games, 11-9, 11-3, and 11-8.
Justin Deckoff completely the first set of matches with a three-game win over Apaar Anand in the seventh slot, 11-3, 11-1, and 11-6.
Winthrop Reed IV
The second set of matches had three sweeps for the Rams at the second, fifth, and eighth positions. Patrick Roddin won at the #2 position over Reid Parisi, 11-6, 11-8, and 11-6, with
Bruce Czachor getting a fifth slot win over Ryan Wiersbitzky, 14-12, 11-7, and 11-8.
Dylan Panichello finished off the second set of matches with an eighth slot win over Julian Ortiz, 11-8, 12-10, and 11-4.
Fordham completed the 9-0 win with wins at the third and sixth positions by
Tommy White and
Winthrop Reed IV, respectively. White took his match in four games over 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, and 11-7, while Reed had a three-game win over Atri Bhattacharyya, 11-5, 11-4, and 11-3.
The Rams move on to the semifinals of the Chaffee Cup, as they will meet NYU at 11:15 AM on Saturday.
