Geneva, Ohio – (February 22, 2020) – The 2020 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship came to a close in style at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday night.
The George Washington Colonials captured their first women's conference championship dethroning two-time defending champion Duquesne. George Washington finished with 608 points with Fordham moving past Duquesne in the final event to take second with 534 points to Duquesne's 525. It is Fordham's highest finish since placing second in 2014.
Richmond was fourth overall with 453.5 points, followed by Davidson (417), St. Bonaventure (281.5), Massachusetts (254), George Mason (219), La Salle (196), Saint Louis (134), and Rhode Island (79).
An incredible final night for the Rams began in the 1650 freestyle event, as
Kate Magill and
Clare Culver both made the podium. Magill earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors with a silver medal time of 16:49.94, while Culver snagged the bronze in 16:50.20.
Bayley Frierson also scored in the event, placing 14
th in 17:09.37.
Next was the 200 backstroke, where
Paulina Watson scored seventh in the "A" final with a time of 1:59.70.
In the 100 freestyle, Fordham had their next medalist, as
Theresa Mullen picked up the bronze medal with a third place finish in a season-best time of 50.51 seconds.
Michelle Martin also scored seventh in the "A" final in 51.13 seconds.
The Rams' lone competitor in the 200 breaststroke was
Vaula Vekkeli, who won the "B" final for ninth overall in 2:17.72.

The last individual event was the 200 butterfly, where
Amelia Bullock continued her rule in the butterfly event, winning the A-10 title for the second time in the last three years in a conference and school record time of 1:57.60.
Hannah McGee just missed earning a medal, taking fourth in the "A" final in 2:01.53.
The final team standings were still in flux, heading into the final event of the championship the 400 freestyle relay. Trailing Duquesne by five points in the standings, Fordham's team of Martin, Culver, Bullock, and Mullen put the exclamation point on a fantastic week, winning the event in a school and conference record of 3:21.10.
In all, Fordham took home six gold medals in the championship (three individual, three relay) and a runner-up finish in the team standings. Additionally, Bullock was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Atlantic 10 Championship, becoming the first Ram swimmer (male or female) to earn that distinction. She finished the championship with six medals, five of which were gold to go with one bronze.
