Geneva, Ohio – (February 21, 2020) – The Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship has concluded its third day of competition at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The men's competition got a little more interesting with a disqualification in the final event on day three by George Mason. However, the Patriots still hold on to the overall lead with 426 points, going into the final day of competition. George Washington is second with 391 points, followed by St. Bonaventure (350.5), La Salle (292.5), Davidson (268), Massachusetts (220.5), Saint Louis (203), and Fordham (165.5).
Fordham had a total of eight individual finalists on day three, which began in the 400 individual medley event.
Nathaniel Guenther was the top Ram, placing 10
th overall in a season-best time of 3:59.19, followed by
Greg Lombana in 13
th at 4:01.78.
In the 100 butterfly,
Kevin Berry scored 14
th in a season-best time of 49.44 seconds, while the 200 freestyle event saw
Josh Stegen take 16
th in 1:42.87.
Patrick Wilson
The next final was the 100 breaststroke, which saw three Rams in the finals.
Patrick Wilson qualified for the "A" final in the preliminaries with a school record time of 55.29 seconds, just edging
Sean Finlay's mark of 55.30 seconds, set in 2017. Wilson ended up sixth overall, posting a time of 55.48 seconds in the championship final.
Julius Ekstrand and Finlay scored in the "B" final, taking 11
th (55.86) and 12
th (56.14), respectively.
Fordham's last individual finalist was
Spencer Clarke in the 100 backstroke, where he took 11
th in a season-best time of 49.60 seconds.
The final event of the night was the 400 medley relay, where Fordham scored fifth, as Clarke, Wilson, Berry, and
Bryce Bollesen clocked in a season-best time of 3:19.47.
The Championship wraps up on Saturday with preliminaries starting at 10:00 AM.
