Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's tennis team traveled down to Philadelphia to compete in the Cissie Leary Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania where the doubles team of Valeriya Deminova and Avery Aude advanced to the consolation finals of the A Doubles draw.
Deminova and Aude opened play with a 6-2 loss to Penn's Iuliia Bryzgalova and Marija Curnic, to move to the consolation bracket where they posted a 6-3 win over Penn State's Olivia Ryan and Shannon Hanley. The duo then took down Natalie Perry and Charlotte Madson from William & Mary, 6-2, to advance to the finals where they fell to Penn's Ashley Zhu and Gibson Thomas, 6-3.
In singles play, Deminova and Aude competed in the A Flight. Deminova opened play with a 6-6, 7-5 win over Delaware's Jojo Bach before falling to Shivani Amineni from Columbia, 6-4, 7-5. She moved to the consolation bracket where she posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Perry before dropping a 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 match to Caragh Courtney from Delaware.
Aude dropped her first match to William & Mary's Mila Saric, 6-4, 7-6 (3), and then lost to Drexel's Salma Ziouti, 6-2, 6-3. She then moved into the Lose-Lose draw where she defeated Temple's Oleksandra Doroshenko, 6-2, 6-2.
In B Flight singles,
Nicole Li defeated Delaware's Sarah Whitted, 6-3, 6-3, and Temple's Cecilia Castelli, 6-2, 6-3, before falling to top-seeded Michelle Xu of Columbia, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals.
Rochelle Yang also competed in the B Flight, receiving first round bye before falling to Penn's Jennifer Richards, 6-3, 6-3. She then dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-1 decision to Viva Lass of Delaware in the win-lose draw.
Li and Yang also played in the A Flight doubles, defeating Mila Saric and Elisa van Meeteren from William & Mary in the first match, 6-3, before falling to Columbia's Christie Wan and Melissa Sakar, 6-4.
