NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference set a league record with 3,290 unique student-athletes receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction in 2018-19 with Fordham leading the way with 325 student-athletes recognized. Included in the Fordham total were 26 from the women's swimming and diving program, tied for the most for any Atlantic 10 women's swimming and diving squad.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, this is the second consecutive year the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award.
The 3,290 honorees tops last year's high-water mark of 3,168 unique student-athletes. In previous years, the yearly Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals.
Fordham had the most honorees with 325, followed by Massachusetts with 307. Saint Joseph's was third with 279 student-athletes honored, and Davidson (271) and George Mason (260) finished out the top five.
