Men’s & Women’s Team Honored for the 16th Consecutive Year

CSCAA Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) has named the Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams to its Scholar All-America team for the Spring 2019 Semester.  A record 480 institutions were named to the list, highlighted by Fordham men's and women's GPAs of 3.29 and 3.57. This is the 16th consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team.

CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart noted: "Coach Potsklan continues to produces champions in the pool and the classroom."

The Fordham men's team was one of eight Atlantic 10 squads honored and was second among the conference schools with a 3.29 GPA. The Fordham women's team was one of eleven A-10 programs honored and also tied for second among the conference schools with a 3.57 team GPA.

"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted the Scholar-Athlete Teams," said head coach Steve Potsklan.  "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."

A record number of teams achieved Scholar All-America status in each NCAA Division with men's teams seeing the biggest gains.  The increase can be attributed to the growing number of men's teams.  "For three years now, we've seen schools add more men's teams than women's," explained Earhart, "and now we're seeing those new teams produce the caliber of student-athlete we've come to expect in swimming and diving."

At 3.45, the median GPA among women's teams was the highest on record.  The men's median (3.23) was down slightly from the Fall semester.

The CSCAA will announce its individual Scholar All-Americans next week.
