Geneva, Ohio – (February 21, 2019) – Day two of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship is in the books at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, and the Fordham women's swimming & diving team had a solid day and sit in fourth place out of 11 teams.
Duquesne leads what is a rather tight group at the top of the standings with 229 points. George Washington is second with 206, followed by Richmond at 198 and Fordham at 193.5.
The night of finals started with a trio of Rams in the "A" final of the 500 freestyle event.
Caitlin McNary earned Fordham's second win of the championship, taking the gold medal in a season-best time of 4:50.91. She is the first Fordham Ram to win the 500 freestyle since Caitlin Napoli went back-to-back at the 2009 and 2010 Championship. In addition,
Paulina Watson placed fifth in the event in 4:53.36, while
Bayley Frierson was eighth in 4:56.78.
The Rams unfortunately did not score in the 200 individual medley, as Fordham's highest finish in the preliminaries was 20
th by
Jacqueline Dominger in 2;06.51 and 22
nd by
Amie Ko in 2:06.51.

Then in the 50 freestyle, Fordham had a pair of Rams in the "A" final with
Tara Brunner and
Michelle Martin. Brunner was the top seed in the preliminaries, posting a school record time of 22.97 seconds, and then matched that exact time in the finals. However, UMass' Ansley Baker just touched out Brunner for first by .04 seconds, leaving Brunner with a silver medal finish. Martin ended up tied for sixth at 23.31 seconds.
The final individual event was the women's one-meter dive, where
Molly Dunn made the "A" final, posting the second-best score in the preliminaries at 259.50. Dunn improved her score in the finals to 267.05, but just missed out on a podium finish, taking fourth overall.
The last event of the night was the 200 freestyle relay, where Brunner, Martin, McNary, and Teresa Mullen picked up Fordham's fourth medal of the championship, as the group took silver in a season, best time of 1:32.28.
Day three of the championship begins at 10:00 AM on Friday with the preliminaries for the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke events.
