Geneva, Ohio – (February 20, 2019) – The 2019 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship got underway on Wednesday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. It was a promising first day for Fordham, as the Fordham women are second out of 11 teams, while the men are eighth out of eight teams.
Fordham finished with 70 points through the first two women's events, trailing only Duquesne with 72.
The Rams kicked off the championship with a gold medal performance in the 200 medley relay, as
Michelle Martin,
Milly Furneaux,
Kiara Norris, and
Tara Brunner posted a season-best time of 1:40.96, as they just beat out George Washington by .07 seconds.
The other women's event on day one was the 800 freestyle relay , where
Paulina Watson,
Caitlin McNary,
Kysha Marie Altura, and
Theresa Mullen placed fourth in a season-best time of 7:22.16. As a part of the relay, Watson's opening split time of 1:48.53 set a new school record in the 200 freestyle, breaking the 2009 record of 1:49.55 by Caitlin Napoli.
On the men's side, Fordham had a pair of eighth place finishes, while two divers scored in the one-meter dive to register 51 points on day one. The Rams are only a couple of points outside of sixth place, which is held by Davidson (58), as well as seventh, which is currently held by Saint Louis (57).

The Rams started with the 200 medley relay team of
Scott Stern,
Travis Monahan,
A.J. Frakes, and
Bryce Bollesen posting a season-best time of 1:31.37, while the 800 freestyle relay group of
Danny McGowan,
Joseph Vizza,
Spencer Clarke, and
Christopher Sleutjes also had a season-best time, clocking in at 6:44.04.
In the one-meter dive,
Diego Perez scored 13
th overall with a score of 200.65 with
Christopher Craig right behind him in 14
th with a score of 200.45.
Will Perlman just missed scoring, placing 17
th with a score of 116.95.
Day two of the championship begins with preliminaries at 10:00 AM for the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and women's one-meter dive.
