Women Finish Second with Men in Fifth; Bullock Sets School Record in the 200 Breaststroke

Lewisburg, Pa. – (December 8, 2019) – The Bucknell Invitational has come to a close and the Fordham swimming & diving team certainly left a mark, as the Rams ended up second in the women's competition and fifth in the men's.
 
On the women's side, Fordham scored 1,436 points, the most by the Rams since they began going to the Bucknell Invitational.  The team finished behind only Towson's score of 1,751 points.  Bucknell was third at 1,107.5, followed by Davidson (1,086.5), La Salle (712), and Rider (480).
 
Among the highlights, Amelia Bullock had a fantastic day with two third place finishes, one school record, and one NCAA "B" qualifying time.  First, she finished third in the 200 breaststroke in a school record and NCAA "B" qualifying time of 2:15.50.  She broke the previous mark of 2:18.08 by Nele Albers in 2017.  She then took third in the 200 butterfly event in 2:01.75.
 
Fordham also posted an event win on Sunday, taking first in the 400 freestyle relay as Caitlin McNary, Michelle Martin, Clare Culver, and Theresa Mullen posted a time of 3:24.19.
 
There were plenty of other excellent performances on day three which began in the 1650 freestyle event.  The Rams had four swimmers in the top ten, led by Kate Magill grabbing second overall in the event in 16:50.56.  McNary was fourth in 17:01.31, followed by Bayley Frierson in sixth (17:09.82) and Chloe Mitchell in tenth (17:54.05).
 
In the 200 backstroke event, another four swimmers found the scoresheet.  Paulina Watson grabbed third place in 2:00.01, while Alison Lin was 11th (2:03.33), Cat Alabanza was 15th (2:04.78), and Mitchell was 24th (2:13.75).
 
Next was the 100 freestyle as Michelle Martin took second in the event in 50.95, leading a total of six scorers.  Mullen finished sixth in 51.76 seconds with Culver in 11th at 51.80.  Kiara Norris won the "C" final for 17th in 52.48, followed by Samantha McDonald in 19th (52.80) and Vaula Vekkeli in 23rd (53.13).
 
Aside from Bullock in the 200 breaststroke Katherine von der Lippe added to the Rams' point total in 20th place in 2:28.45 along with Courtney Cail in 24th (2:32.07).
 
Finally, five swimmers joined Bullock in scoring in the 200 butterfly event.  Hannah McGee was sixth in 2:03.04 with Alabanza in 14th (2:08.97), von der Lippe in 15th (2:09.10), Frierson in 16th (2:09.67), and Kysha Marie Altura in 19th (2:09.48).
 
In the men's competition, Davidson outlasted five other teams to finish in first with 1,261.5 points.  Rider was second (1,190), followed by Towson (1,165), La Salle (995), Fordham (947), and Bucknell (859.5).

Fordham was led on the final day by Patrick Wilson.  After winning the 100 breaststroke on Saturday, he finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke on Sunday in a time of 2:04.69.  He was also a part of the 400 freestyle relay, where he joined Spencer Clarke, Kevin Berry, and Josh Stegen to take fourth in 3:04.09.
 
First, Diego Perez finished ninth in the three-meter dive with a score of 227.25 points, while in the 1650 freestyle, Christopher Sleutjes grabbed third place in 16:00.10.  Also in the 1650 freestyle, Danny McGowan was 12th (16:22.22) with Doug Grisbaum in 17th (16:46.38).
 
In the 200 backstroke, Connor Wright won the "B" final for ninth overall in 1:51.67, while Scott Stern was 16th in 1:54.68.
 
The 100 freestyle saw four Rams find the scoring column, beginning with Stegen in 10th in 46.21 seconds.  Clarke and Berry tied for 12th at 46.47 seconds with Bryce Bollesen in 21st at 47.04.
 
Besides Wilson, the 200 breaststroke had five other scorers for Fordham.  Nathaniel Guenther was sixth in 2:06.63, followed by Nicolas Trichery in tenth (2:07.65), Sean Finlay in 12th (2:10.03), Wesley Fales in 15th (2:13.94), and Evan Fenska in 17th (2:12.97).
 
In the last individual event, four Rams scored in the 200 butterfly with Ethan Murray winning the "B" final in 1:52.85, while Max Asnis was 13th (1:53.42), Greg Lombana was 15th (1:58.12), and Casey Sawyer was 18th (1:54.27).
 
The Rams are now off for Christmas Break until Friday, January 17th, when the Rams host Boston College at 4:00 PM.
