Swimming & Diving Maintains Team Standings on Day Two of Bucknell Invitational

Women Remain Second with Men in Fifth

Lewisburg, Pa. – (December 7, 2019) – Day two of the Bucknell Invitational is in the books and the Fordham swimming & diving team had another good day in the pool, remaining second in the women's competition and fifth on the men's side.
 
Towson is still atop the women's standings with 1,244 points, followed by Fordham (1,022), Davidson (732.5), Bucknell (714.5), La Salle (503), and Rider (355).
 
Fordham was led on day two by Amelia Bullock, who posted two NCAA "B" qualifying times and winning an event.  She took first place in the 100 butterfly in an NCAA "B qualifying mark of 53.64, while taking second in the 100 breaststroke in an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:01.95.  She was also a part of the 200 medley relay with Michelle Martin, Hannah McGee, and Theresa Mullen that placed second in 1:41.77.
 
The Rams had three other top three finishes to highlight the day.  Molly Dunn earned second place on the one-meter dive after winning the three-meter dive on Friday with a score of 248.80, while Vaula Vekkeli was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.45.  Vekkeli, who scored 13th in the 200 freestyle (1:52.85), was also a part of the 800 freestyle relay with Paulina Watson, Caitlin McNary, and Clare Culver which also finished third in 7:27.14.
 
Fordham had a number of other scorers in day two events.  In the 400 individual medley, Alison Lin grabbed fourth overall in 4:22.34, with Katherine von der Lippe taking 11th in 4:30.36.  Bayley Frierson (4:31.94) and Cat Alabanza (4:36. 35) rounded out the 400 IM in 14th and 16th place respectively.
 
Aside from Bullock in the 100 butterfly, four other Rams scored in the event.  McGee and Martin finished fourth and fifth respectively in 55.23 and 55.33 seconds with Mullen in 11th (56.87) and Kiara Norris in 16th.
 
In the 200 freestyle, seven other Rams scored in the event in addition to Vekkeli.  Cluver was the top finisher in fourth at 1:50.84, followed by Watson in fifth in 1:50.86 and McNary and seventh in 1:52.05.  Kysha Marie Altura was 12th in the event at 1:52.74 with Mullen in 19th (1:53.25), Kate Magill in 20th (1:54.73), and Chloe Mitchell in 23rd (1:55.35).
 
Courtney Cail joined Bullock and Vekkeli in the 100 breaststroke, scoring 19th in 1:09.06, while Natalie Ortof (11th – 204.05) and Grace Sanders (16th – 150.10) scored in the one-meter dive with Dunn.
 
The last individual event was the 100 backstroke, which had six scorers for the Rams.  Martin was the top Ram in fourth place in 55.84 seconds with Watson winning the "B" final for ninth place in 57.48 seconds.  Naima Mackrel was tenth in 56.98, followed by Lin in 15th (57.42), Alabanza in 18th (58.42), and Bridget Bowen in 23rd (58.93).
 
Davidson is now in first in the men's competition with 807.5 points, just ahead of Rider with 806, followed by Towson (718), La Salle (671), Fordham (599), and Bucknell (558.5).

For Fordham, Patrick Wilson led the way by winning the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.03 seconds.  He was also a part of the 200 medley relay with Spencer Clarke, Kevin Berry and Bryce Bollesen, which took in fourth place in 1:31.54.
 
Aside from Wilson, five other Rams scored in the 100 breaststroke with Sean Finlay in seventh (57.86), Nicolas Trichery in ninth (58.13), Josh Stegen in 16th (1:00.94), Bollesen in 21st (1:00.45), and Evan Fenska in 23rd (1:01.04).
 
Another highlight for the men was the 800 freestyle relay made up of Clarke, Christopher Sleutjes, Ethan Murray, and Stegen.  The group scored second overall in 6:45.23.
 
In the 400 individual medley, Nathaniel Guenther was Fordham's top finisher in 11th place in 4:06.53 with Greg Lombana taking 18th (4:11.19) and Wesley Fales in 19th (4:11.19).
 
After winning a swim-off, Casey Sawyer made the "A" final of the 100 butterfly and placed sixth in 50.13 seconds, while Berry took 11th in 50.28 seconds.
 
Then, five swimmers scored in the 200 freestyle event.  Stegen won the "B" final for ninth overall in 1:39.59, followed by Clarke in tenth (1:41.03), Sleutjes in 13th (1:42.56), Murray in 16th (1:43.00), and Danny McGowan in 18th (1:42.79).
 
The final event was the 100 backstroke , which saw three Rams in the scoring column.  Connor Wright was 16th overall in 52.50, with Guenther in 20th (51.67) and Scott Stern in 21st (52.06).
 
The final day of the Bucknell Invitational starts at 10:00 AM on Sunday.
