Lewisburg, Pa. – (December 6, 2019) – The Fordham swimming & diving team kicked off its final meet of the semester on Friday, as the Rams are in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for the three-day Bucknell Invitational. After a successful day one, the Fordham women are in second place out of six teams, while the men are fifth out of six teams.
On the women's side, Towson leads with a score of 547 points, followed by Fordham (445), Davidson (287.5), Bucknell (283.5), La Salle (222), and Rider (139).
The Rams' day was highlighted by three event wins for the women, which began with the 200 freestyle relay team of
Michelle Martin,
Hannah McGee,
Kiara Norris, and
Theresa Mullen posting a season-best time of 1:32.66.
Martin then doubled her pleasure by taking first in the 50 freestyle. After posting an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 22.97 second in the preliminaries, she won the event with a time of 23.05 seconds. Six other Fordham swimmers scored in the 50 freestyle with Mullen taking fourth (23.72), McGee in fifth (23.79), Norris in sixth (23.96),
Samantha McDonald in ninth (23.96),
Naima Mackrel in 16
th (24.40), and Allie Hodorski in 24
th (24.98).
The final event win came in the three-meter dive, as
Molly Dunn took first with a score of 270.00 points, while teammates
Natalie Ortof and
Grace Sanders also scored in the event. Ortof was eighth with a score of 213.20, while Sanders was 17
th at 174.90.
Fordham had multiple scores in the other two individual events on day one. In the 500 freestyle,
Paulina Watson was third overall in 4:54.73 with
Kate Magill in eighth in 4:57.74.
Clare Culver won the "B" final for ninth place in 4:55.81, while
Caitlin McNary was tenth (4:56.09) and
Bayley Frierson in 15
th (5:02.53).
Then in the 200 IM,
Vaula Vekkeli was the top finisher in fourth place in 2:03.00, with
Alison Lin taking seventh overall in 2:04.08.

The final women's event on Friday was the 400 medley relay, where Watson, Vekkeli, McGee, and Mullen placed third in a season-best time of 3:45.31.
Towson also lead the men's competition with 370 points, followed by Rider (334), La Salle (318), Davidson (301.5), Fordham (265), and Bucknell (260.5).
The men were led by strong performances by their top two relay teams. In the 200 freestyle relay,
Patrick Wilson,
Bryce Bollesen,
Sean Finlay, and
Kevin Berry kicked things off with a second place finish in a season-best time of 1:22.20. Then, the 400 medley relay of
Spencer Clarke, Wilson,
Casey Sawyer, and
Josh Stegen finished fourth overall in a season-best time of 3:21.26.
In the individual events, Fordham had as many as four scorers in both the 500 freestyle and 50 freestyle events.
The 500 freestyle saw
Christopher Sleutjes finished seventh overall in 4:35.86, followed by
Danny McGowan in tenth (4:38.98),
Ethan Murray in 12
th (4:39.72), and
Doug Grisbaum in 24
th (4:47.58).
Later in the 50 freestyle, Berry was the top Fordham time, taking third in 20.61 seconds, while Wilson was 10
th in 20.81 seconds. Bollesen was the next best performer in 13
th (21.21) with Finlay in 21
st (21.61).
In the 200 IM,
Nathaniel Guenther was a finalist in the top heat, ending up seventh in 1:52.65, while Clarke won the "B" final for ninth place in 1:53.14.
The last individual event was the men's one-meter dive with
Diego Perez scoring ninth at 220.30 points.
The Bucknell Invitational continues on Saturday with preliminaries starting at 10:00 AM.
