Leesburg, Va. – (November 2, 2019) – The first Atlantic 10 Championship of the 2019-20 season is in the books, as the Men's Cross Country Championship took place on Saturday at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Virginia.
The Championship was a successful run for the Fordham men's team, as the Rams took third out of 14 teams, the squad's best-ever finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship, placing five runners in the top 34 finishers. The Rams' previous best-finish was sixth on five different occasions, the last in 2013.
La Salle was the men's team champion with a score of 53 points, followed by Saint Joseph's in second with 99 points and Fordham in third with 104 points. Host school George Mason was fourth at 124 points with Massachusetts in fifth (143), Dayton in sixth (150), and Richmond in seventh (174).
Duquesne led the rest of the field in eighth (222), followed by Davidson (232), Rhode Island (245), VCU (269), George Washington (270), Saint Louis (290), and St. Bonaventure (430).
Ryan Kutch
Individually, Fordham's
Ryan Kutch did his best to defend his A-10 crown from a year ago, but came up four seconds short. Saint Joseph's Zacary Michon crossed the finish line first in 25:02.7 with Kutch behind him for second in 25:06.6, earning All-Atlantic 10 honors.
Nicholas Raefski also earned All-Atlantic 10 honors for Fordham, placing 15
th overall in 25:46.9.
After Raefski,
Colin Flood and
John McGovern were the next Rams across the line in 26
th (26:08.5) and 27
th (26:09.8), respectively, with
Brandon Hall in 34
th (26:20.8).
