Bailey O'Mara and a five-goal output by
Dimitris Koukias, the 16
th-ranked Fordham Rams extended its win streak to six games with an 11-8 win at Johns Hopkins in water polo action on Sunday.
With the win, Fordham improved to 21-5 on the season, 8-2 in the MAWPC.
The two teams played even for most of the first half with Fordham taking a 6-5 lead on a late extra-man goal by
Jason Hiremath.
The Rams then built on that lead in the third on extra-man goals by Tristen Knoflic and
Oscar Nomura for an 8-5 edge with 3:46 left in the period. John Hopkins rallied to tie the game at eight before Knoflick scored with one second on the clock for a 9-8 lead heading to the final quarter.
In the fourth, Fordham locked down on defense and did not allow a goal in the final frame, while
Dimitris Koukias scored two of his five goals to seal away the 11-8 win.
Beside Koukias' five-goal performance, he also had three steals and an assist in the game, while Nomura added three goals and five assists. Knoflick had two goals and four steals with Hiremath having the final tally. In net,
Bailey O'Mara notched a career-high 21 saves, becoming only the third Fordham goalkeeper to have at least 20 saves in a match. The last was Noah LeBeau in 2012 with 21 against Mercyhurst.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Tuesday, November 12
th, when the Rams host St. Francis Brooklyn at 7:30 PM at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
