#5 Water Polo Opens MAWPC Action This Weekend

Rams Hit the Road for Matches Against Mercyhurst, Bucknell, & Mt. St. Mary’s

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 19, 2025) – After a week off from competition, the fifth-ranked Fordham water polo team is back in the pool this weekend, beginning MAWPC conference play with three matches.  The Rams are at Mercyhurst on Saturday, while taking on Bucknell and Mt. St. Mary's on Sunday at the Bison Invitational.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Rams posted a 20-15 win over Santa Clara on September 7th.
  • Fordham opened with a 7-3 lead after the first quarter, as the Rams got back-to-back goals from Alessandro Salipante in the final two minutes to go up four.
  • Santa Clara closed within two, 10-8, at halftime before Fordham put seven goals on the board in the third quarter to take control of the game at 17-10. Andras Toth netted four of the seven goals in the quarter for the Rams.Toth ended up with a game-high six goals in the win.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Fordham has won the last 14 meetings against Mercyhurst.The Lakers last win over the Rams came in 2012.
  • Fordham has nine straight wins over Bucknell, dating back to 2021.The Bison last topped the Rams in 2019.
  • The Rams are a perfect 10-0 all-time against Mt. St. Mary's.
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Rams have won 44 consecutive MAWPC regular season games entering this season, while also having a 55-game win streak in any game against an MAWPC opponent.
  • Through six games, Fordham is converting on 60% of its man-advantage opportunities (31-for-52).
  • Andras Toth has a team-high 25 goals this season, while Luca Provenziani is the team leader in assists (19), points (34), and steals (10).
  • Barnabas Eppel (13) and Diego Tresa (14) have been a two-headed monster at the center position, drawing a combined 27 ejections.
  • Reid Thorson was recognized as the inaugural recipient of the Eric Weber Award, which will be given every year to a returning student-athlete that exhibits outstanding leadership and athletic ability.  The award winner is bestowed with the honor of wearing cap #7 for the next season, which was Weber's number during his playing days.  The cap will also don Weber's initial's "EW" on the back.
WHO'S NEXT
  • Following this weekend, the Rams open their home schedule at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on Saturday September 27th, with matches against Princeton at 10:30 AM and Wagner at 4:00 PM.
