Newport News, Va. – Among the many school records that senior libero
Morgan Williams has broken during her time in the Bronx, especially this season, her third Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week award this year is a first for the program. No other student-athlete has earned more than two in a single season, while her four total career honors are also tops in program history. The Atlantic 10 announced this week's honors on Monday afternoon.
Williams Honored for Three Single-Match Records Broken in September
Williams and the Rams played just one match this weekend, but it was a strong three-set victory over Rhode Island on Saturday evening. It was Fordham's first conference victory of the campaign. The Los Angeles native was honored prematch with a commemorative ball depicting the three single-match records she broke in September, including the four- and five-set digs record in addition to the overall record, before nearly breaking the three-frame record, as well, instead settling for matching it for a third time in her career, with 22, something she's done in each of the last three seasons.
Williams is currently up to 468 digs on the year, 13
th-most in Division I and tops in the Atlantic 10, while her 5.92 per-set rate is fifth and first, respectively. The senior captain is just 14 digs away from a new single-season record at Fordham, while the latter stat will shatter her mark of 4.28 from a year ago. Williams became the school's career digs leader two weeks ago, surpassing Stephanie Frost ('07), and is now up to 1,689 during her tenure. She has a career per-set rate off 4.31, nearly a full dig per set above Frost's previous mark (3.46).
The Rams host Duquesne on Friday night at 7 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday at 1 p.m.
