Series History
Fordham and Siena have met 18 times since the first meeting back on April 29, 1978. Siena has the slight edge in the series at 10-8, with the Saints winning seven of the last nine. Fordham did break a streak of five consecutive wins by Siena last season, when the Rams pulled out an 11-3 win up in Loudonville, N.Y.
Last Time Out
For the second straight day, the Fordham baseball team got a solid seven-inning outing from its starting pitcher and a three-hit game from
Brian Goulard, leading to another win over the Rhode Island Rams at Houlihan Park. After a 4-0 win yesterday, Fordham captured a 5-3 decision on Sunday to earn the series win.
Fordham jumped out to the initial lead at 2-0 in the second inning on a two-run single by
Nick Labella, scoring
C.J. Vazquez and
Brian Goulard. Vazquez had reached on a fielder's choice, while Goulard singled to center. Both then advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Labella's single. Rhode Island answered back with a pair of runs in the top of the third on an RBI-single by Kevin Heiss and an RBI-ground out by Jackson Coutts.
The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when Fordham regained the lead at 3-2. With one out, Vazquez was hit by a pitch, and moved to third on a single by Goulard. URI starter Taso Stathopoulos was then called for a balk, allowing Vazquez to score. URI threatened to get that run back in the eighth with two runners on and two out, but Fordham reliever
Kyle Martin struck out Matt Daller to end the threat.
Goulard was again at the center of the Rams' scoring in the eighth, as Fordham picked up a pair of insurance runs for a 5-2 lead. Fordham loaded the bases with two outs on a single by
Billy Godrick and walks to Vazquez and Tarabek. Goulard followed with a two-run single through the right side to score Godrick and Tarabek.
Rhode Island did put a ninth inning rally together against Martin, getting the tying run on base following a two-out RBI-single by Coutts. However, Martin got Laurence Hill to ground into a fielder's choice for the final out of the game.
Brian Goulard
Anthony DiMeglio (4-0) earned his fourth win of the season, as he tied his career-highs with seven innings pitched and nine strikeouts, while allowing two runs on seven hits. Martin recorded his fourth save of the year and second in as many days, posting two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of relief. At the plate, Goulard was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base, while Labella was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Vazquez reached base twice and scored twice with Godrick going 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Goulard & MacKenzie Earn A-10 Weekly Award (4/9)
The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its set of weekly baseball awards with Fordham junior
Brian Goulard being named the conference's co-Player of the Week, while freshman
Jake MacKenzie was the league's Rookie of the Week. It is the first career weekly honor for both players with MacKenzie being the fourth different Ram freshman named Rookie of the Week.
Goulard had a big hand in all three of Fordham's wins this week. He batted .500 (7-for-14) with two runs scored, a triple, six RBI, and two stolen bases in the Rams four games. He drove in three runs in Fordham's school-record 29-1 win over Saint Peter's on Wednesday. Goulard then registered three-hit games in both Fordham wins over Rhode Island on Saturday and Sunday. He knocked in two runs on Sunday and one on Saturday and finished the week with an on-base percentage of .500 and a .643 slugging percentage.
MacKenzie hit safely in all four games this week, helping Fordham to a 3-1 record. The second baseman batted .444 (8-for-18) with three runs scored, two doubles, two triples, four RBI, and a .500 on base percentage. He was 2-for-6 with a triple, two runs scored, and three RBI
on Wednesday against Saint Peter's. He then went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in game one versus URI. MacKenzie was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in game two, while having a hit and a stolen base in game three.

He's Going, He's Going
A popular phrase heard at Fordham's Houlihan Park at any Rams' home game is "He's going, he's going!" That phrase has certainly been true throughout the 2018 season. This year, the Rams have 102 stolen bases, which marks the 11
th time that Fordham has surpassed the 100-stolen base plateau in team history. The Rams rank first in the Atlantic 10 and first in the country in overall steals, while the team's 3.64 average is also tops in the nation. Individually, 11 Rams have at least one stolen bases this season and six are in double figures.
Who's Next
Following today's doubleheader, the Rams hit the road for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at La Salle, April 13-15 in Philadelphia.
